March 27, 2025 Update

Parents and Families

This journey is for you, too. Whether you live around the corner or in a remote corner of the globe, you are part of the Bobcat family.

We know the decision to send your child to study at Quinnipiac is a huge commitment from you, and our goal is to be as transparent as possible with the need-to-know information you're looking for.

Check back often for up-to-date news, events and contact information for resources across campus.

Message from our Chief Experience Officer

Dear parents and family members,

Welcome back from spring break! We hope your student enjoyed traveling locally, abroad or even back home for some rest and relaxation. As we head into the final stretch of the semester, there is a lot going on around campus.

The 1929 fund is holding a fundraiser again this year asking seniors to donate $19.29 and in turn they will receive a graduation chord and a stole! (They can pick them up at the CXO office in the library). The group has raised more than $200,000 in scholarships for students entering their first year at Quinnipiac. Last year, there were six lucky recipients of the scholarship. Please tell your student to consider donating. Here is the link for them to donate (or feel free to order for them): Donate online to the 1929 fund

The GAME Forum is in its 14th year and will be held April 3-4 at the Marriott Marquis this year. It attracts a diverse audience of over 1,300 business-savvy participants from more than 125 universities. The event featured a comprehensive lineup of 30 panels, which included over 100 speakers representing 70 different companies. Any and all students should attempt to attend. This is the largest student event of its kind in the nation (and beyond). Congrats to the students who have led this amazing program. Learn more about GAME Forum

QTHON starts on Saturday, where students participate in an six-hour dance-a-thon to funds and awareness for Connecticut Children's, our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, supported by current students, alumni, faculty and staff alike. Last year students raised over $140,000, and more than $1 million over the past decade. I hope your Bobcat stops by the RecWell Center to support such a great event. The event happens on Saturday, March 29 all day long. Thank you to our QTHON leaders. Learn more about QTHON.

Other notable mentions: The men’s basketball team finished first in the MAAC Conference this year, the women’s basketball team finished second in their regular season play in the MAAC Conference and the men’s ice hockey team will compete tomorrow in the NCAA Tournament, while other spring sports are in full swing.

The spring semester offers an array of events: The Critical Conversation Series is still ongoing; I am hosting one more Talk on the Rocks for seniors and alumni from various professions to connect with our students; The Big Event is on April 12 this year, please have your Bobcat sign up for this awesome event. On the Rocks Pub & Grill is offering weekly programming, be sure to check Instagram for details. Greek Week is April 7-12, when ice cream socials, blood drives, talent shows and tons of fitness classes are being offered, all can be seen on the events page.

As always, should you have any questions or need guidance on assisting your student with an issue, please feel free to contact us at QUParents@qu.edu. Thanks for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Tom Ellett

Common concerns addressed by the CARE Team:

  • Excessive stress/anxiety

  • Interpersonal conflict

  • Academic concerns

  • Death of a loved one/family member

  • Transitional issues: homesickness/trouble making friends

Housing and Residential Life Updates

Room selection for rising sophomores and juniors is just around the corner.

Residential Life sponsored open houses of the sophomore and junior housing on March 21 and 22 offering tours of the areas to students before selection.

Selection numbers and times will be posted on MyHousing March 27 at 2 p.m. for students participating in the process.

Residential Life is sponsoring roommate socials to assist students looking for roommates:

  • Rising junior roommate social: March 31, 8 p.m., Perlroth Mall

  • Rising sophomore roommate social: April 3, 8 p.m., Perlroth Mall

All roommate groups must be fully matched: each student in the group must select every other student in the group as a roommate. Students should their roommate groups BEFORE their selection time to be sure they don’t have a last-minute scramble to get roommates matched.

Rising juniors will select April 1 and 2; rising sophomores will select April 7 and 8.

The list of available rooms will be available on MyHousing at 9 a.m. the day of selection. Students participating in the process can log in at any time after that to see the list of spaces their group can fit but will not be able to choose until their designated start time.

We encourage all students to have a backup plan in case their first choice is not available.

Students must be able to fill a room to select it. A four-person group could choose two singles and a double, or two doubles. A three-person group could choose a single room and a double, but not two singles and half of a double room as the double would not be filled. A 5-person group will not be able to select a 6-person suite because they cannot fill all the beds in the suite as one of the doubles would not be filled.

Once a group chooses a room, none of the roommates can leave that room to select again with another group. No room changes will be made until the conclusion of the room selection process.

Staff will be available throughout the process to assist students.

Meal Plans

As we are coming to the close of the academic year, students should be especially mindful of their meal points.  All students are encouraged to check their meal points at least once a week by installing the Transact app on their mobile device or accessing the Transact website. Comparing the actual meal point balance to the week-by-week guidelines will help students to stay on track.

Too many points

Any leftover meal points will roll over from the fall to the spring semester. However, spring semester points will expire if they are not used at the end of the term. The last day to use meal points is on May 10.

Students with too many points have three options available to them:

  1. Consider transferring points to another student

    1. Learn more about the transfer process

    2. Log into Quinnipiac's meal point transfer system

  2. Participate in the Tap Out Hunger program and donate meal points to charity. This program opens in April.

  3. Purchase food or beverages in bulk quantities directly from the dining hall to bring home. Dining services offers limited items based on cost value at the end of each year.  There is a sign-up process announced in April and pick ups take place in the final weeks of the semester. Students will receive a notification when the bulk purchasing opportunity begins.

Too few points

Students who have fewer points than the budget recommends can negotiate a transfer of points from another student.

If a student runs out of meal points, they can supplement with Q-Cash. The dining facilities accept Q-Cash and credit cards. Q-Cash acts as a debit account separate from the student's meal plan, and students may add Q-Cash to their account at any time by making a deposit on the Transact page. Parents and guardians can also make guest deposits. In addition to each dining location on our three campuses, Q-Cash is accepted at numerous establishments in the surrounding area

Mail Center Updates

We hope this message finds you well. As we continue to enhance our campus services, we would like to inform you of some important protocols regarding package deliveries. Please read the following guidelines carefully to ensure smooth and efficient handling of your mail and packages:

  • Unified Address for All Deliveries: All mail and packages should be addressed to 275 Mount Carmel Avenue, Hamden, regardless of your office, residence hall, or housing location. Please do not use 305 Sherman Avenue for mail or package deliveries.

  • Use Your Official Name: Ensure that the name on your mail or packages matches the name you used with Admissions at the time of your application. Unless you have updated your name with the Registrar’s Office, this is the only name Mail Services recognizes. Avoid using nicknames, screen names or pet names.

  • Include Your Mail Services Code (MSC): Always include your uniquely assigned Mail Services Code (MSC) on each envelope and package. This code helps us accurately identify the recipient, especially for students with similar names.

  • Plan for Weekends and Holidays: Mail Services is closed on weekends and university holidays. Please plan your deliveries accordingly, as locating packages delivered during these times can be challenging if they are not delivered to Mail Services on the Mount Carmel campus.

  • Official Receiving Location: The Mail Services office on the Mount Carmel campus is the designated receiving location for all mail and packages. The locker locations in the student centers are not equipped or staffed to handle deliveries, particularly outside their operating hours.

  • Prompt Package Pickup: Please heed Mail Services delivery notifications and pick up your mail and packages promptly to avoid any inconvenience.

  • Third-party delivery companies: We strongly encourage you to use companies that have trusted experience and knowledge of Quinnipiac delivery protocols (FedEx, UPS, USPS, DHL, OnTrac and Amazon). Others have not been successful in following our hours of operation and location for mail delivery. This could lead to loss of a package.

  • Students should not meet drivers for pick-ups: There have been cases where delivery drivers have not been consistent in their delivery of packages. Avoid non-insured companies that cannot be verified for delivery. Additionally, these companies are not allowed on campus for deliveries.

Thank you for your attention to these guidelines. By following these protocols, you will help ensure that all deliveries are handled efficiently and securely. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mail Services.

Dear parents,

I hope everyone – students and all their families, had a relaxing and thought-provoking vacation. We now enter those last few weeks of the semester when everyone seems to be both excited and a bit nervous about these last, few weeks. Spring weather will be here soon and with that – Pessach!

This year Pessach begins on Saturday, April 12. First seder is held at my home and all students who wish to share it are invited.  We generally begin around 6 in the evening.

We use an easy but accessible to all hagadah, we share in the mitzvah of Matzah and eat matzah ball soup and a nice seder meal! I will send out a Pessach email later this week, but please let your child know about this. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

On April 25, The Hereld House is hosting a last shabbat of the semester for students and parents. If there is any way you can come and share shabbat with Quinnipiac’s Jewish community, please know you are most welcome!

I hope spring brings you all good and the world has a bit more Shalom.

Financial Aid

If your student has a financial hold on their account as registration nears, please consider checking the Financial Aid tab on Self-Service, to be sure the federal student loan offer is accepted for this school year. Students wanting to borrow a federal student loan that have not filed a current FAFSA, have limited time to do so. The 2024-2025 FAFSA is located on the StudentAid.gov website. Submissions for this current school year must be filed prior to April 15 in order to provide ample time for the office to process the loan offer.

If you need assistance outside of the financial aid offer, there are educational borrowing options available to explore.

The federal Parent PLUS Loan offers parents the opportunity to borrow an educational loan to pay their student’s bill. The loan application is located on the StudentAid.gov website and the Financial Aid Office will be notified within 48 hours of the application submission.

If the parent is declined credit for the PLUS Loan, the student may be eligible for an additional federal unsubsidized loan as part of their current financial aid offer. A valid FAFSA submission is required in order to process federal loans. Refer to the Student Aid website for more information regarding the Parent PLUS Loan, studentaid.gov/plus-app/

Private educational loans are available to students, parents and guardians to pay for school. Please refer to elmselect.com, an unbiased website providing the most current information on private lenders historically used by Quinnipiac families. There, you will find the link to each lender’s application, along with the lender’s customer service phone number, should you have questions relating to your specific financial situation. The lender will notify the Financial Aid Office once the loan is ready for certification. Note, undergraduate students will be asked to obtain a co-signer in order to secure a private educational loan.

The Financial Aid Office can be reached at finaid@qu.edu with additional questions.

Loans

Are you planning to secure an educational loan to finance the balance due on your student’s spring semester invoice?

Please refer to the financial aid loans webpage for borrowing options and more detailed information.

Outside Scholarships

Many students use outside scholarships as a resource to help with funding their education. We encourage all students to research outside scholarship opportunities. Learn more about searching for scholarships.

Questions

For any questions or to speak with a financial aid counselor, please call 203-582-8750 or visit the Financial Aid Office in the Echlin Center. Counselors are available Monday – Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

One Stop Office (Student Administrative Services)

Check Your Email

Consistent with the university policy, One Stop uses email as our official means of communication with students. We send frequent emails to students and to their proxies with important information that is time-sensitive. All students are required to check their emails regularly.

Student Accounts

Students with unpaid balances who are not on payment plans from the January and Spring 2025 terms will have late fees applied monthly. In addition, these students have holds on their accounts which will prevent them from registering for the Summer and Fall 2025 terms.  Students and their proxies should access Self-Service to check for outstanding balances and pay accounts in full.

Please reference the following for assistance as needed:

1098Ts

As required by the Internal Revenue Service ("IRS"), Form 1098-T is mailed by January 31 to all students who had qualified tuition and other related educational expenses paid during the previous calendar year.

The information reported on Form 1098-T is intended to help students evaluate their eligibility for education tax assistantships as part of their federal income tax return. While it is a good starting point, the 1098-T, as designed and regulated by the IRS, does not contain all of the information needed to claim a tax credit. It is up to each taxpayer to determine eligibility for the credits and how to calculate them. IRS Publication 970 "Tax Benefits for Higher Education" as well as Chapter 35 of IRS Publication 17 provide additional information on these credits.

More information about 1098Ts can be found on the 1098T page of our website

While the 1098T is mailed to the student, students can also find their 1098T in Self-Service> Tax Information> 1098T Information

    • First-year students may not bring their vehicle to campus for the Spring term.

    • Sophomores must park their vehicles in the York Hill Garage.

    • Juniors, seniors and graduate students should consult the maps which show the parking permit types permitted to park in each lot.

    • Public Safety enforces all parking rules and regulations and will be ticketing and towing as needed.

    • Students with three or more unpaid parking violations will have a hold placed on their account and will be subject to towing until the violations are paid in full.

  • Per the Quinnipiac University Rules and Regulations each permit allows parking in certain designated lots. Please find the list of available lots under Parking Permit Classifications and Locations on our website.

  • Campus maps will help to identify the lots for which the permit entitles the driver to park.

  • All students with vehicles on campus must check their email regularly, especially when inclement weather is expected. Students will be asked to move their vehicles during inclement weather to allow facilities to clear parking lots. Students who fail to move their vehicles risk a ticket and tow.

Any questions, please reach out to One Stop Auxiliary Services at parking@qu.edu.  Learn more on the parking page of our website.

Transition to Graduate School Meetings (Accelerated Dual-Degree and Dual-Degree Students)

Congratulations! Your student has almost completed their undergraduate education here at Quinnipiac University. We are gearing up to meet with students to assist them in planning for and making the transition to their graduate program.

During the fall semester, graduate admissions held the initial "Transition to Graduate School" meeting with students. Katie Ludovico, senior associate director of graduate admissions, explained the admissions process to students and shared the “Transition to Grad School” form, which serves as their application to graduate school at Quinnipiac.

As we kick off the spring semester, we will start to meet with students to complete the "Transition to Graduate School" meetings. These meetings have been scheduled in collaboration with their program directors and/or schools, graduate financial aid, graduate student affairs and graduate admissions.

During this second meeting, the students learn about graduate student life and graduate engagement opportunities from graduate student affairs. Graduate financial aid shares in-depth information on how to finance their graduate education including the costs, timelines and paperwork. All students who attend this session can access the handouts on Blackboard under the "Organization" section they have been invited to join. This allows them to easily share that information with you. These sessions will be conducted by Heather Hamilton, director of graduate financial aid, and Gina Frank, dean of graduate student affairs.

All events have passed, but the make-up date for everyone is Monday, March 3 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., SB-109.

In addition, we are excited to share that your student will be invited to an event on Tuesday, April 8 at 4 p.m. to celebrate their accomplishment in completing their undergrad degree and joining graduate school at Quinnipiac. The provost, chief experience officer, academic deans and faculty will be there to welcome students to grad school. Each student will receive an academic cord to designate them as a dual-degree student who will be entering our graduate programs.
