Scott Davies, Ph.D

Dr. Scott Davies is an environmental physiologist and completed his B.Sc. in zoology and M.Sc. in Ecology at the University of Wales, Bangor, UK before moving to the USA to complete his Ph.D. at Arizona State University. He also conducted postdoctoral research first at Virginia Tech and then at the University of Nevada, Reno. At Quinnipiac, he teaches mainly in the Human Anatomy and Physiology series, but also teaches Experimental Design and Communication, and Vertebrate Zoology. He is the first in his family to go to college and his journey to getting a Ph.D. was circuitous. He took time out before studying for his B.Sc. and again before studying for his Ph.D., during which he travelled to get experience in field biology and worked for a couple years in the construction industry.

Dr. Davies is fascinated by how organisms work and how they have found a physiological solution to cope in almost every environment on Earth. Research in the Davies lab focuses on how an organism's physiology enables it to cope with changing environmental conditions. To do this, the Davies lab studies captive breeding Zebra Finches. Dr. Davies' research enables students to explore questions in bird physiology and behavior, and students interested in these areas are encouraged to contact Dr. Davies about opportunities in his lab.
