Professor of Law
Prior to joining the Quinnipiac law faculty, Brown served as a law clerk to the Honorable Harold A. Baker, U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois. She practiced law as a litigation associate at Winston & Strawn in Chicago Illinois, and taught law at the University of Chicago, Emory University, and Santa Clara University.
She joined the Quinnipiac School of Law faculty in 1994 and became a full professor in 1996. In 1997, she was named director of Quinnipiac's Center on Dispute Resolution. She served in that capacity until 2013, when she became dean of the law school. In June of 2019, she was appointed interim executive vice president and provost of Quinnipiac University and she served in that office for one year. Brown then returned to the deanship of the law school from fall of 2020 until the summer of 2024.
Brown has taught at some of the most prestigious law schools in the country, including Yale, Harvard, Georgetown, Emory and the University of Illinois. For several years, she served as a visiting lecturer and senior research scholar at Yale Law School. She also served as secretary on the board of directors for Freedom to Marry until the organization fulfilled its mission and happily went out of business. She currently serves on the board of trustees for Connecticut Public Broadcasting Inc. and the board of trustees for Goodspeed Musicals in East Haddam, Connecticut. For the 2024-2025 academic year, she will be on sabbatical as a Scholar in Residence at New York University Law School.
