Get Your Talk On: Create Your Own Podcast

Come learn how to create a podcast from start to finish. In this program, you will learn from our award-winning instructors about how to have fun conversations with a purpose. Spend the week exploring strategies for ideation, pre-production and planning while picking up tricks for interviewing, mixing music and promoting episodes on social media. At the end of your experience, you'll walk away with your very own podcast pilot episode.

Overview

Have you ever felt like you had something to say, but didn't know how exactly to say it? Well, podcasting might be the perfect medium for you.

This interactive course equips students with the tools they need to create fun, engaging and memorable podcasts and YouTube videos. You’ll work alongside an award-winning podcaster and former radio host to develop your own podcast or YouTube show that highlights your passion and creativity.  

At the end of this program, you’ll walk away with:
  • The ability to carry on an engaging and thoughtful conversation that’s accessible to the audience

  • Active listening skills and an ability to discern nonverbal communication

  • A developed sense of teamwork, collaboration skills and individual authenticity

  • Strong awareness of social media branding, marketing and community-building

  • Production and distribution knowledge and AI content development skills

Schedule

Sample Daily Schedule: This is only a sample schedule and is subject to change due to a variety of factors.

Time Activity Detail
9 a.m. Watch and Talk Watch a popular podcast episode, break it down into parts and discuss podcast style and conversational techniques 
10:00 a.m. Skills Introduction to conversational skill or production technique used in aforementioned episode
11:00 a.m. Workshop Working in teams of 3 to 6, students conceptualize a conversation that incorporates aforementioned skill or technique 
Noon Lunch Eat and socialize with your classmates.
1 p.m. Talk and Watch Students record their conversation live in the podcast studio; other students watch the conversation on the TV outside the studio. Students debrief after each recording and discuss what worked, what didn't, what could be added, taken away, etc. 
3 p.m. Social Media Students discuss how to best market the recently recorded episode. Where are the viral clips?  
4 p.m. Editing How should the final episode be edited? What other visual or audio elements are needed to help the conversation along? 
4:30 p.m. Dismissal Dismissal for commuter students.
5 p.m. Dinner Dinner will be provided for those students with full room and board.
6 p.m. Evening Activities (Group Recreation, Games, Guest Speakers, Independent and Group Enrichment Projects) The evening is reserved for overnight students to have fun, experience our on-campus amenities, and bond with each other and staff through organized group enrichment activities.
10 p.m. Quiet Time  

Participation Requirements

Participants must be current high school students. Typically, participants are between the ages of 15 to 18 years of age at the start of the program. 

Equipment and Materials

Quinnipiac University will provide all required materials, including laptops, for students within this program. Students are welcome to bring their own laptops or other devices for use outside of instruction periods or with the approval of their instructor.

Program Costs

Option 1: 1-week overnight program from Sunday to Saturday. Includes full room and board as well as evening and weekend activities: $1,800

Option 2: 1-week on-campus commuter program from Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Includes lunch daily: $1,500

All options include:

  • One week of faculty-designed and delivered programming, administered online or on campus with educational support staff and program materials

  • Technology and software support

  • A Quinnipiac T-shirt

  • A digital badge for use on social media, resumes or portfolios

  • Access to special Quinnipiac Admissions events

How to Register for Summer Programs

Students must declare if they plan to attend for either the residential (overnight) experience or the commuter experience at the time of registration. Register and pay in full by January 15, 2026 to secure $100 off the cost of attendance.

Minimum Required Deposits

If you are not paying in full at the time of registration, you must submit a non-refundable $250 deposit to reserve your spot for 30 days. Any student who places the non-refundable deposit must pay the full remaining cost of the program within 30 days from the date of deposit to be enrolled in the program.

Discounts and Financial Aid

Partial financial support may be available for those who indicate the need for financial assistance in their online application. Financial support awards are based on a combination of financial need and academic merit.

Accommodations
