Fellowship in the NLN Academy is one of the highest honors in nursing education, recognizing leaders who have demonstrated excellence in teaching innovation, research, faculty development, academic leadership and public policy advocacy. Slater’s selection underscores his national impact as a transformative educator and visionary leader who is shaping the next generation of nurses.
With this honor, Slater becomes part of a fellowship of 429 experts who serve as mentors and catalysts for continued excellence in nursing education. His induction will take place during the 2025 NLN Education Summit in Orlando, Florida, on Sept. 19.
“It is a great honor to be recognized as a fellow by the Academy of Nursing Education for my longstanding commitment to the development of our next generation of nurses, advanced practice nurses and nurse leaders,” Slater said. “My career in nursing education has been most rewarding, and I look forward to continuing my focus on innovation and inclusivity at the Quinnipiac University School of Nursing in the years to come.”
Slater’s recognition highlights Quinnipiac’s growing leadership in health professions education and its commitment to preparing nurses who provide inclusive, compassionate, and evidence-based care in today’s complex health care landscape.
Slater, who was appointed dean of the Quinnipiac University School of Nursing in 2023, has a PhD in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a master’s degree in accounting from the Collat School of Business at UAB. He is a certified nurse educator through the National League for Nursing and a board-certified registered gerontological nurse through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
