The Quad bursted into vibrant color and energy as Quinnipiac Dining hosted an afternoon wellness event on Tuesday, April 8 promoting nutrition, physical activity, creativity and community spirit.

Despite windy weather, the event drew enthusiastic participation from students who engaged in an array of interactive stations centered around movement, mindfulness and giving back.

Set to upbeat music, the rainbow-themed experience invited students to explore various stations, from fitness classes and healthy food options to creative outlets. Whether participating in an outdoor Spin class, sampling fresh juices, or tie-dyeing wearable art, students embraced the opportunity to relax and connect.

Lexi Pepe, marketing manager for Quinnipiac Dining, emphasized the importance of the event in addressing students’ mental and physical health as the semester nears its end.

“This event meant a lot to me as I was just a college student experiencing the potential challenges and stressors some other students are facing,” Pepe said. “Students will graduate and receive their first full-time position. I think events like this give them the encouragement to socially interact with others, help them relax and take the focus off of their studying, and allow them to learn how colorful foods can bring the best out of their diet.”

One of the most dynamic features of the event was the Spin and Sip station, which featured outdoor Spin classes led by Tami Reilly, director of fitness and well-being at Quinnipiac.

“Moving your body is a part of our physical well-being,” Reilly said. “Spinning is a motivating and inspiring way to get cardio in with a fabulous instructor who has curated a workout to be energetic. It also is a great way to be a part of a community, which is another very important aspect of our wellbeing.”

Participants cooled off with Shake Smart samples — healthy, colorful juices that provided a nutritious post-workout boost.

Another popular station, Step Into the Color, challenged students to lace up their sneakers and take a walk-run-loop across the Mount Carmel Campus. The route started at the Quad, circled around the Recreation and Wellness Center, and concluded at the Carl Hansen Student Center, with prizes awaiting participants.

Health and nutrition were spotlighted at the Eat the Rainbow station. There, students met with a campus dietitian to learn about the health benefits of colorful fruits and assembled their own fruit skewers.

Aiden Hughes ‘27 said he had a great time

“I think it is great to promote eating healthier and keeping a healthy mind, so that your body follows,” Hughes said.

Creativity thrived at the tie-dye station, where students designed unique T-shirts while bonding with peers over colorful designs and artistic expression. Tables were splattered with vibrant dyes as students twisted and dyed their own shirts.

In a meaningful gesture of community support, the Snacks for a Cause table offered pre-packed snack bags, with all proceeds benefiting a local elementary school. Donations of children's books, coloring books, and crayons were collected, along with snack bag purchases.

Throughout the afternoon, students expressed their appreciation for the engaging, inclusive event that successfully merged health, creativity, and giving back into a festive and accessible experience.

The event offered a welcome pause from academic pressures, encouraging students to prioritize their overall wellbeing as the semester nears its conclusion.
